Shelter Flooded!

Orphans of the Storm suffered a flood on Friday, September 17 as the result of Hurricane Ivan.

Over 130 animals were evacuated.

The good news is we lost no animals, staff, or volunteers.  We do need to replace lost dog, cat, puppy, and kitten food as well as litter, so if you can help, please send us a donation to help us recover!

Here are some photos of that weekend!

4 p.m.  The parking lot is flooded!

..

We lose our electricity.

Water is rushing in under the doors, the dogs are standing in almost a foot of water, the cats are crying and trying to climb out of cages that are quickly filling with water.

The water continues to rise, inside and outside the shelter.

5 - 9 p.m.  Bill and Elaine Crytzer save the day, providing a huge flat-bed truck to transport the animals, and employees to help volunteers evacuate 135 animals.

9:30 p.m. Finally, all the animals are safe and dry, tucked away in warm crates for the night.

They were returned later that weekend after the shelter has been scrubbed from top to bottom.

Thanks to all the volunteers and people who donated to help us survive this flood!
